Fun ideas for long road trips

Adult activities

Planning a road trip with friends? Or go out with your partner for a romantic getaway? We offer you some of the activities to liven up the trip:

Podcasts / audiobooks
If the group has similar interests, or if you travel As a couple and you never have time to enjoy an audiobook together, podcasts or novels are a perfect way to pass the time.

Shiritori
This Japanese game seems easy: just think of a word that starts with the last letter of the previous player’s word. For example, if they say dog, you can say door, someone else can say alga… and so on. However, it becomes difficult if there are competitive players in the group! There is a limited number of words that start with …

Make each other a “playlist”
Traveling with your partner? Make a playlist before you hit the road, made up of songs you think she’ll like or that represent a memory of the relationship. The other person must guess why she chose each particular song.

Partner Questions
This can be played in a group, but is more effective with a partner . Download or make up a set or two of “couple questions” to learn more about each other. It sounds corny, but remember that the questions can be as funny or offbeat as you like.

Compete for selfie “likes”
This is another one of our favorite activities on a trip that can get a bit competitive… Every person of the group takes one photo (or as many as you want) per day to put on Instagram or similar, the winner is the person who gets the most likes. This can turn into a competition very quickly.

< em>Plan the trip, or the next one
If it’s a long way to the next destination, challenge everyone to find something fun or unusual to see or do next destination. The winner can be decided by voting or drawing. If you’re on your way home, why not start planning your next trip?

How to keep kids entertained

Keeping the kids busy on a family road trip or long RV trip can be a challenge. Try these activities to keep the kids entertained:

The Spy
The voyeur mixed with bingo: every player is given a card with various things listed on it and has to locate the thing on the card to get points. For example, looking for people eating, people singing, someone picking their nose… The game is called Rubberneckers and you can get it on Amazon.

Pirate Map< /em>
Similar to spy, only this time the cards are made by the kids ahead of time. It can be as random as you like: “a person with three dogs” or “a red bridge”, for example.

Gift bags
A very simple idea with learning included and without spending too much money. Make gift bags for each child and distribute them when necessary, for example, every 160 kilometers or every night, depending on the stress of the children.

Bubbles!
Younger children always love bubbles. As long as they’re a safe distance from the driver, let them blow bubbles out the window and see how far they can go.

Blackboard and chalk
Let your kids scribble and draw all they want, then wipe it off and start again. Etch-a-Sketch also works well for this activity.

Draw on the windows
Or why not let the children draw directly on the windows? Find washable markers and give each child a pack so they can draw their own pictures or challenge each other to hangman or tic tac toe.

Which do you prefer…?
A great game for all ages. Adults ask a “would you rather…” question, e.g. Ex. “Would you rather have big hands or feet? Would you rather be a dinosaur or a caveman? ” (This is also great fun for adults traveling without kids: go as daring as you want!)

“I went to the store”
This game uses the alphabet and tests memory and is great for kids as they can often beat mom and dad Player 1 says “I went to the store and bought an [item that starts with“ a ”]. Player 2 continues with “I went to the store and bought an [item starting with“ a ”] and [item starting with“ b ”]. Player 3 goes to the store and buys items starting with a, b, and c, and so on.

Movies and Games
Make sure you have a fully loaded tablet of movies at the start of each long drive and downloaded a lot of them Many parents prefer to limit screen time, but you might change your mind in the sixth hour of an all-day drive.

Audiobooks
Yes If kids are a bit older, they’ll probably love Harry Potter audiobooks or any other character they love!
